Types of Forehand Grips, Semi Western & Western

This week's feature will be on our Star Coach, Shawn, who has explained in detailed to help our star students with the different forehand grips. Here, he explains the Semi Western Grip & Western Grip in detail,

Semi Western Grip

Semi-western and western grips are both types of tennis grip used for holding the racket.

The semi-western grip is a grip where the base knuckle of the index finger is placed on the fourth bevel of the tennis racket handle. This grip allows for a more topspin-oriented stroke, as it makes it easier to brush up the back of the ball. The semi-western grip is popular among modern tennis players, particularly on the forehand side.

Western Grip

The western grip is a grip where the base knuckle of the index finger is placed on the fifth bevel of the tennis racket handle. This grip is even more extreme than the semi-western grip, and it enables players to generate even more topspin on their shots. The western grip is typically used on the forehand side, but some players also use it on the backhand side.

In a nutshell,

Both semi-western and western grips are popular among professional tennis players, and the choice of grip depends on the player's individual preference and playing style. The grip can affect the angle of the racket face and the spin on the ball, so it's important for players to choose a grip that is comfortable for them and suits their playing style.
